CHAIN REACTION
Chain bags are undoubtedly one of this year's most important trends, so make sure your spring wardrobe features at least one of these designs. It can be a shoulder bag, a shopper, or a mini handbag—each of them will look outstanding.
Those of you who keep up with the latest collections surely know that the most chain-adorned options can be found at Saint Laurent, Gucci, Balenciaga, and Jimmy Choo. The first two brands present designs in a classic yet exceptionally elegant style, while Demna Gvasalia's brand has enhanced its models with a specially aged texture. The British fashion house, meanwhile, focuses on extravagant editions, covering bags with sequins, crystals, and shimmering embellishments.
HANDCRAFTED
Woven shoppers are nothing new when it comes to spring-summer season bags, but this year, other forms will play a leading role as well. The top designers have crafted a variety of woven options and, interestingly... they did not limit themselves to just one material.
The collections feature bags made from woven leather—a hallmark of the Bottega Veneta brand—but also designs crafted from raffia, wicker, straw, palm, and even rope. These materials have been used not only to create the new it-bags of the season, such as those by Isabel Marant and Marni, but also to present iconic models in an entirely fresh and modern way. We're thinking above all of the well-known 'Le Bambimou' by Jacquemus, the 'Vela' by Etro, 'Sac de Jour' from Saint Laurent or 'Bon Bon' by Jimmy Choo.
FASHIONABLE BUCKET
The bucket bag is another popular style that appeared in the spring-summer collections of the most luxurious brands. And although in previous seasons these shapes came in slightly avant-garde versions, this time designers have focused on a classic take, paying the greatest attention to subdued colors and minimalist details.
These included Stella McCartney, Jonathan Anderson, Gabriela Hearst, and Sarah Burton. While their designs shared a universal aesthetic, they differed in shape and the way they are carried. We were especially drawn to the larger-sized models by Chloé, available with both shorter and longer straps, as well as one of the season’s most important it-bags—the bucket bag from Loewe, which the creative director himself recommends wearing casually slung over the shoulder.
STYLISH FORM FOR YOUR HAND
Last but not least: clutches. Following the example set on the runways, both casual styles and those intended for evening outings have their place. The difference lies in the design, as larger pouch-style sizes are perfect for everyday use, while sophisticated looks are best complemented by much smaller yet more extravagant forms.
This year, the former are a specialty of Jacquemus, Balenciaga and Jil Sander. While the exceptional construction of these brands may not guarantee all-day comfort, they will easily fit all your daily essentials and ensure a look worthy of a fashion icon. And when it's time for dinner with friends or a bigger party, one of the eye-catching designs by Bottega Veneta, The Attico or Jimmy Choo will work best.
